TEDWomen in Singapore

The TED conferences make a date with the women of Singapore at the first TEDWomen event

Onwards and upwards, the TEDWomen conference lands in Singapore.
Who are the women leading change? What ideas are they championing? How are they shaping the future?

These are the questions to be discussed at the first TEDWomen talk taking place in Singapore on December 8 and 9.

Founded in 1984, the TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) conferences were set up as a platform for "ideas worth spreading."

Currently curated by Chris Anderson, TED talks are held all over the world and since July 2010 700 of its talks have been available free online.

In Singapore, the TEDWomen conference is organized under the TEDx Singapore umbrella will feature noted local speakers and also a stream of TED Talks and performances from the TEDWomen Conference in Washington D.C.

Making up the panel is a mishmash of inspiring individuals, among them a surgeon, a pop culture authority and a serial social entrepreneur. In addition, two performers -- songwriter Iris Goh from Athenarts Performing Troupe and entertainer Karen Ng from Mezzé Flame -- will inject an entertainment element to the event.

Speakers include:

Anna Tsang, social entrepreneur and founder of the Mother and Child project, will speak on how to start social enterprises in places with no natural resources.

Architect Evi Syariffudin will speak on how to understand, improve, protect and support life.

Esther Tan, one of the Singapore Women’s Everest team will share about her experience climbing Everest.

Kelley Cheng, a pop culture authority, will tackle the topics of design and art.

Lilian Ing, a clinical psychologist, will share on her experience adopting her daughter from China and becoming a mother.

Dr Susan Lim, surgeon and stem-cell researcher, will discuss the latest in stem cell research and its potential impact on our lives.

While registration is now closed TED will stream online parts of the program taking place at the National Library. Tune in on December 8 and 9 from 7-8:30 p.m.: www.livestream.com/tedxsingapore.
