Ruijin Hotel's historic grounds
The Ruijin Hotel is all about history. Once the massive estate of the Morris family (owners of the once important but now defunct English publication "The North-China Daily News"), the hotel was built 90 years ago and accommodated everyone from Mao Zedong to Richard Nixon.
To take advantage of the historical surroundings, try staying in the Ruijin Hotel's Building One. There, you can room in the same suite used by Chiang Kai-shek and Deng Xiaoping (when the hotel was a government guesthouse).
Along with its history, the hotel's biggest selling point today is its majestic grounds. The Ruijin Hotel offers a quiet refuge from Shanghai life, complete with sprawling green lawns, stone passageways covered in trellises and even a towering magnolia tree.
