Putuo goes five-star: Shanghai Marriott Changfeng Park

Let the other five-star hotels quake in their designer digs, Putuo District welcomes its first internationally managed five-star hotel

Shanghai sure ain't short of hotels, but Marriott International’s newest kid on the block, its tenth property, stands out from the pack.

The Shanghai Marriott Changfeng Park, is a partnership between Marriott and Shanghai business behemoth, New Development Group Co., Ltd, and became the first internationally managed five-star hotel in Shanghai’s lesser known but quickly developing Putuo District on February 6.

With our complete food and beverage concepts, a range of top class luxury facilities and exceptional service we will provide the ultimate experience of lifestyle.
— Rauf Malik, general manager

The hotel's thirty two floors with a total of 501 rooms and suites offer two extras that most Shanghai hotels can’t: lots of space and green views. This Marriott property has some of the city’s roomiest digs (standards up to 42 square meters) and scenic views of Changfeng Park and Suzhou River.

Mix things up

Business and pleasure mix disturbingly well when you can enjoy 1,500 square meters of meeting space, a 25m indoor pool, Quan Spa and not one but two executive lounges with a generous "plus one" guest policy (no sneak-ins necessary).

When the work day is done or recreation’s the theme, the entire city is at your doorstep, but there are still plenty of reasons to stay put with seven restaurants and bars including a wine cellar and rooftop cigars and cocktails. We can't wait to enjoy these views in the summer.

General manager Rauf Malik notes, “This hotel is slated to become the destination for food and beverage in the Putuo District, but we have no plans of stopping there.”

Adjacent Changfeng Park offers more than just green with walking (and jogging) trails and fun future bits to explore including MGM Studio World and the Jackie Chan Museum due to open later this year. It’s also home to the Shanghai aquarium that lets you swim with their sharks

Of course, a successful hotel is nothing without it people. Long-time Marriott GM Rauf Malik and staff have been working around the clock to create that total experience for guests. “My focus is that, while everyone has a hotel, everyone has a room and everyone provides restaurants and facilities, I want our guests to love coming here,” says Malik. “With our complete food and beverage concepts, a range of top class luxury facilities and exceptional service we will provide the ultimate experience of lifestyle.”
