A name that stands out among the traffic and chaos at People's Square.
Le Royal Meridien Shanghai fits the “build it big and they will come” mantra that seems Shanghai’s modern day motto.
Few come more cavernous than this 761-room giant.
Abutting the corner of People’s Square and Nanjing Lu, the location is excellent, though the ‘glass-anteater’ Shimao Tower it occupies is something of an eyesore.
The open-plan rooms -- replete with glass-paneled bathrooms and floor-standing plasma 360-degree swiveling TVs -- are comfy and contemporary. But the rooms facing People’s Square offer the best views -- well worth requesting one.
The underrated Allure French restaurant is a hidden secret while the 789 Nanjing Lu bar on the 64th-66th floors is super swanky and offers fabulous views of the city.
A large hotel has one draw back: finding your way around. You might need to enlist a bellboy’s assistance find all the facilities that the Le Royal Meridien Shanghai has on offer.
