JIA Shanghai: A designer home

The fashion jet set have learned to say "home" in Mandarin -- JIA (and if they’re worth their Manolos they know it’s pronounced jah).

And they have the hotel to thank.

This boutique dwelling in a renovated 1920s townhouse has a low-key side entrance off Shanghai’s main stretch of both Wujiang Lu and Nanjing Xi Lu.  

Fifty five rooms come with self-catering kitchen pods, designer furnishings and smart in-room technology, including Nintendo Wii games and MP3 link-ups. There are even laundry machines next to the gym to use at your leisure, although that might be pushing the concept a bit too far.

Guests can make themselves at home and enjoy complimentary breakfast, all-day bevvies, afternoon cakes and evening cocktails in the funky residents’ lounge. 

Don't miss the rustic-chic Italian restaurant and bar Issimo on the second floor -- its thin crust pizza is some of the best in the city.
