Beyond a jazzy red-and-white lobby, the Chinese-managed H Hotel has 99 rooms with basic facilities and a shock of design features -- from string curtains to pod chairs to painted wall murals, and that's just in the standard rooms.

Eight themed rooms include the all-pink Hello Kitty suite, replete with Hello Kitty ashtray, bathmat, stereo, manicure set and calculator. Tacky, you say? But with the H Hotel's rooms starting from only RMB 280 a night and within easy reach of Lujiazui, we're not complaining. We'll call it funky.
