Xintiandi expands again with Style
A mock up of Xintiandi Style -- offering Shanghaining another luxury mall to separate them from their hard-earned cash.If there weren’t enough shopping options in Shanghai already, the mother of all shopping areas, Xintiandi, is expanding for a third time in September, under the name “Xintiandi Style.”
A representative from Ruian Affairs, the company that is helping to organize the launch, says that the new Xintiandi Style “will be an indoor version of the current outdoor, popular two-block complex” that runs from Taicang Lu to Zizhong Lu.
According to a report posted on Guanchao.com, a popular online portal, Xintiandi Style will be located behind the original two at Zizhong Lu and Fuxing Zhong Lu and open to the public in September.
The main Xintiandi Square will be connected to the new indoor complex by an over-street bridge. Additionally, Metro lines 10 and 13 will have exits that directly lead to Xintiandi Style.
Although Xintiandi Style will maintain its connection to the previous two Xintiandi areas, it won’t continue the shikumen architectural style that made them famous.
Xintiandi Style draws big names
But the true legacy of the first two areas -- big name fashion brands -- will be included. Over 20 designer brands have already signed up for space in Xintiandi Style, with 30 of the possible spaces going to new players in the Chinese market.
Major international brand names that will inhabit the first floor of the new mall include the Shanghai flagship shop of agnes.b, Jas M.B. and the first China outlet for Peach John, a Japanese underwear brand.
The second floor will be reserved mainly for brands from the new generation of Asia-based designers like Wang Yiyang’s ZUCZUG, Gaoxin’s EVEN PENNILESS, Qiuhao’s one by one studio and Hong Kong evening gown designer Cecilia Yao’s brand.
Other stores reported to be jockeying for space in Xintiandi Style are EBHK, a concept shop from Hong Kong stocking stuff from new designers, as well as SMUDGE, a line from a Singapore pop singer and the classic American skater sneaker brand Vans.
