The Japanese have a knack for being cute and creative -- and one woman brings it to Shanghai's Ushigokoro Creative Box.
Inspired by a trend that started in Japan over 10 years ago by a Mr Kohji Ishikawa, Ushigokoro Creative Box owner Natsuka Matsudi has filled a dinky, unfinished studio space in Shanghai with a collection of little wooden boxes. She rents these wooden boxes out to local artists and designers for a small fee allowing them to display and sell their work. Small boxes means small products, in other words, there’s a cheap and cheery jumble of jewelry, art work and other hand-crafted tschotschke such as scouring pad-covered notebooks and wooden USB keys.
