Rarely do sales in Shanghai make our radar, but the Chinese New Year sale by boutique local shoe brand, Mary Ching, makes us happy we stuck around instead of joining the masses seeking warmer (and firework-free) climates for the Spring Festival break.

Alison Mary Ching Yeung is Shanghai's first lady of shoes and has made her name creating drool-worthy footwear from the most decadent materials she can get her tools on. But Yeung's ambitions don't stop there. She says her next step is to make Mary Ching China's first home-grown international luxury brand.

Priced to move ... at least in February

Fans of the British-Chinese designer's work should prepare to salivate at the prospect of Mary Ching's February clearance sale, offering up to 80 percent off throughout the month.

According to Yeung, the new year just seemed like a perfect time to “clean out the closet.”

And what a fabulous closet it is.

All of Mary Ching's current stock has been marked down, with shoes that normally retail for RMB 2,400-3,200 now priced from RMB 350-1,200.

Although starting during Chinese New Year Ching is also promoting the bargain on her bad-ass stilettos as an early Valentines Day present to Shanghai's men folk -- making the decision a bit easier as to what to get their fashion-conscious better half.

Yeung suggests gift-hunting gentlemen go for a classic stiletto style to ensure optimum satisfaction for everyone involved.

“The seductive Mary Ching stilettos, such as the Manta and Sissy [both reduced to RMB 800], are a temptation for any man and would be received with pleasure by any lady,” she says.

The sale runs until the end of February and the studio is open throughout the Chinese New Year holiday period. Call +86 21 6090 4599 to make an appointment -- that is if we don't get to all the shoes first.
