A Shanghai Chanel boutique to make Coco proud

Chanel's flagship boutique opens in Shanghai. What took them so long?

We know it’s been a long, hard wait (lined with shanzhai Chanel bags), but fret no longer, Chanel opens its Shanghai Chanel boutique flagship store today, November 25. We’re sure the Shanghai luxury-loving masses will be giving thanks for it once November 26 rolls around.

To ensure the ultimate luxury experience, the flagship Shanghai Chanel boutique isn’t its Plaza 66 location (it’s so mass market), it’s throwing open it posh doors in the new Peninsula Hotel.

The interior of the store is by Peter Marino and the boutique is based on the design of Coco Chanel's own lux apartment. According to Luxist “The idea was to give this new boutique a residential feel by combining hand-picked art, antiques and other objects with a refined store décor … The art of shopping is to be a subtle experience at this unique salon where customers enter the apartment-like space, can sit on sofas and have individual items brought to them as opposed to jostling elbows with other shoppers while browsing the merchandise.”

Peter Marino explains "The result [in the Shanghai Chanel boutique] is comfort, quiet elegance, timelessness. The chic of Chanel."
