A serious case of gadget envy: Powermonkey solar recharger
Worry not when confronted by that evil low battery indicator. Provided there is enough sunlight to power the Powermonkey.Forget a charger when traveling and we’re a nervous wreck. Will our phone die during a business call? Will our computer power off before this article is saved? Even packing light, there’s barely room in our suitcase for all the chargers we need to keep our phone, laptop, iPod and camera going strong. Thankfully we found a fix.
A foreign correspondent friend of ours who is frequently on the road to cover stories was back in Shanghai recently and was showing off his Powermonkey, a slick little portable charger that juices up his tech toys when he’s on the go. It’s solar-powered too.
He couldn’t stop "oohing" and "aahing" over it. We might have a serious case of gadget-envy.
Here’s how it works:
- Plug it in and charge it up at home or work.
- Bring it along on your business trip and leave your other chargers behind.
- When your phone (or anything else) needs a buzz, plug into the Powermonkey.
That’s it. Socketless charging from a device that takes up less space than your socks.
Even if you're roughing it, the Powermonkey still works. Just lay it in full direct sunlight and it soaks up enough power to charge up your device. You’re out of luck on an extremley overcast day, but it’d be perfect for an off-road business trip.
The PowerTraveller series of portable chargers (including Powermonkey Explorer combining conventional and solar power and Powergorillas for heavyduty laptop charging) can be purchased through Amazon.com, BestBuy.com, and on PowerTraveller.
