Everything old is new again -- yes, that is a zipper you see.
Qipao by Jane capitalizes on the most fashion forward way to take a bit of China home with you -- not to mention channel a bit of Shanghai 1930s glam: a custom-made qipao.
Having learned the art of pattern making from local master tailors, United States-born Chinese designer Jane Zhu, of Qipao by Jane fame, offers traditional Chinese qipaos with a modern twist.
While classic styles and fabrics are available, it is Zhu’s deconstructed styles that pack the punch. The designer works with vibrant hand-painted prints and experiments with detail and ornamentation, while sticking to the form-hugging basics of the garment that made it such a knockout the first time around.
Qipao by Jane also offers made-to-measure silk qipaos, which normally take three to four weeks. You can also order online from her website.
