Cha Gang: Shanghai couture

Designer Wang Yi Yang’s experimental aesthetic isn’t for everyone -- some would call the clothes at his Cha Gang store, conceptual and intellectual fashion, others might call it plain weird -- but his artsy French Concession boutique is worth a visit all the same.

In one corner of Cha Gang, there’s a cluster of stainless steel pots and pans (for decoration only), in another, large cardboard boxes stacked against the wall and across the floor there is a display of colorful shoulder bags, padded scarves, stuffed toys and select pieces of clothing for sale (think padded clown-like pants).

More wearable is a casual range of oversized unisex T-shirts with geometric prints and a jeans collection. Wang Yi Yang also collaborates with artists on exhibitions at Cha Gang.
