Cairn Wu Reppun's passion for good fashion on Shanghai's streets
Fashion from the streets of Shanghai to your computer screen. The debate rages in Shanghai, is the metropolis truly a “fashion city” as many locals claim, or it is more like a lost child playing dress up in its mother’s clothes?
Shanghai-based designer, Cairn Wu Reppun argues the former.
Reppun has received her fair share of attention from local press (PSFK, SmartShanghai, City Weekend) and is now stepping out onto a new platform with friend, photographer and San Francisan Natalie Wang to create Vain Lane, a website devoted to imparting fashion knowledge.
As Reppun says, “Style is my passion, and ugly-fashion my nemesis.” She proves this true by working with Wang to find the best style Shanghai -- and any other urban center they travel to -- has to offer.
The site isn’t a new format as far as online fashion sites go, but it is new for Shanghai: A street shot of a fashionable Shanghailander and then a rundown of what they’re wearing.
With all the, um, interesting fashion choices made by many Shanghai urbanites, it might be a first reaction for bloggers to highlight the city's more laughable fashion choices (belts passing as skirts and bedazzled everything), but Wang and Wu take the high road, highlighting the best about the city's eclectic style.
Our personal favorite fashion choice so far -- electric pink and blue men's China Nike knockoff high-tops. Classic.
We’re excited to see how things progress as Shanghai Fashion Week (October 20-27) nears.
