These candy-colored condom packs (RMB 10) have been one of the best sellers in Le Yi Gift Shop since vendor Fu Jie began offering them a few months ago.

"I got them immediately when I saw the wholesale stock," says Fu. "They've been flying off my shelves ever since. They are the killers! Probably because they're so convenient for people."

Smiley-face bread balls

"Aw ... super cute!" says a college-aged girl as she holds up two plastic "bread" balls with smiley faces, showing off her new purchase to her friends.

"And they even smell like bread," shopkeeper Zhu Xiaoyin reminds the girls.
