Radisson Blu: Shanghai's new graffiti destination
Upscale hotel rescues Shanghai's street art
By CNNGo staff 9 December, 2011The Moganshan Lu graffiti wall, Shanghai’s 600-meter long street art landmark, is due to be torn down at the end of this month.
Since the decision was announced by the area’s property owner last summer, local artists and fans have expressed their determination to carry on the city’s street art scene via local media.
And now, one Shanghai hotel has shown its support by opening doors to graffiti artists and street art-lovers.
Radisson Blu graffiti wall
Radisson Blu Pudong Century Park launched a 200-square-meter graffiti wall in its underground garage earlier this month.
“After we learnt the Moganshan Lu graffiti wall would be demolished, we wanted to do something to promote the beauty of graffiti art in Shanghai,” said Lily Yao, the hotel’s director of marketing and communications.
“This project also fits our mission as an art-themed hotel.”
Radisson Blu has invited Shanghai-based graffiti artist Paul Conquerel to tag the wall with a series of Christmas-inspired graffiti.
The French street artist has also created five 16-square-meter graffiti paintings to be hung in the hotel lobby.

Unlike Shanghai's property developers, Radisson Blu is not in a hurry to erase these scribbles and splashes.
According to Yao, the 362-room hotel regards the graffiti wall a long term art project and is happy to chat with local graffiti gurus for future cooperation.
