Pecha Kucha Shanghai is back
Pecha Kucha Shanghai offers a forum for Shanghai's creatives to put their work out there -- for exactly six minutes and 40 seconds. It's been absent for nearly a year but finally Pecha Kucha Shanghai is back.
Not a dirty name for a tantric move (itâs actually a Japanese word that roughly translated to chit-chat), this night is all about mental stimulation.
If you missed the 12 previous events, Pecha Kucha Shanghai -- actually every Pecha Kucha event in the world -- follows same basic principles:
- 15 speakers
- Each speaker gets 20 slides
- Each slide is shown for 20 seconds
- Total time for each person: six minutes and 40 seconds.
Somewhere between a party and really quick speaker series, the point of the night is to get dialogue flowing.
Don't expect a back-to-back race through each speaker's 660 seconds in the spotlight, Pecha Kucha Shanghai gets people talking during the frequent breaks where conversation is helped along by drinks and live music.
Friday nightâs theme is âthe public space,â an apt topic for the Shanghai masses living in a city thatâs constantly reinventing its public spaces -- for better or worse.
We caught up with event organizer Aga Zhu and asked why they're bringing this event back after so long: âThis week is Shanghai Creative Industry week, and together with our sponsor DutchDFA and FAR Architecture and Design Center we thought this was the perfect time to get an exciting speaker list like this together and restart the event.â
If this installment goes as well as Pecha Kucha Shanghai parties, er, sorry, events have in the past, Zhu is confident weâll see more Pecha Kucha Shanghai events soon.
