Murder, mystery and charity in Shanghai
Lifeline Shanghai provides Shanghai residents with an anonymous hotline to turn to for confidential counseling. After a six-year hiatus, the Lifeline Shanghai (Shanghai's anonymous mental help line) Murder Mystery Night is back offering more than your average charity auction.
For those who missed Halloween, this is your second chance. Ransack grandma’s closet (or find a good tailor at the fabric market) and come in your best old time rags, a la Dick Tracy or historic Shanghai, if you're so inspired.
Mingle with the other guests dressed to kill (or be killed, who knows?) over a three-course meal. Free-flow drinks will add inspiration and the entertainment, provided in the form of a murder mystery dinner, will be deadly fun (in only the best ways).
And when it’s lights out with case and casket closed, go home feeling good about doing your part for mental health awareness.
Tonight, murderous drama and endless tipples actually help rack-up karma points.
All homicidal acts and jokes aside, when getting down to the issue, Lifeline is serious business, doing its part for the often neglected and stigmatized issue of mental health in Shanghai.
An entirely non-profit organization, Lifeline Shanghai is allied with and accredited by Lifeline International with a goal to address the continual need to "make mental health issues a global priority." It additionally offers the YouthLink program promoting mental health to the international school community.
“We are very excited to revive the murder mystery concept as a fund raising event," says Lystia Putranto, Lifeline Shanghai’s executive director. "This time around, we're definitely going all out having collaborated with Shanghai Repertory Theater to ensure that it will be a fun, glamorous and unforgettable night full of ‘murder’!â€
