More Bob Dylan rumors and JUE tickets on sale
Hangghai brings rock from the Mongolian grasslands back to Shanghai as part of the 2011 JUE Festival.March is here and that means big news for Shanghai live music. This week updates are on both the almost mythical Bob Dylan Shanghai concert and 2011 JUE Festival fronts.
First off, 2011 JUE Shanghai tickets go on sale today.
If you want to get to the big international shows like The Whitest Boys Alive (RMB 130, pre-sale, RMB 180 at the door on March 14) or Japan’s World’s End Girlfriend you better get moving.
Other big shows on the line-up are Beijing’s Hanggai, Black Hole Carnival, The Black Atlantic and a Maybe Mars showcase.
If you’re a Taobao master, order the tickets online through the 2011 JUE Shanghai store, or pick them up at the Source (158 Xinle Lu 新乐路158号).
Other than the JUE tickets going on sale, the other big news picked up by both ChinaMusicRadar and Kungfuology is that Bob Dylan fans might be one step closer to seeing him in person.
According to both blogs, rumors are spreading across Weibo that the government has confirmed a permit for Bob Dylan this week, with Kungfuology’s Jake Newby writing that “The government in Beijing has approved a license for a Bob Dylan concert in [Beijing] (no word on Shanghai) according to Sina.”
The last time rumors that the music legend was going to play in China circulated was in April 2010 when Dylan announced shows in Beijing and Shanghai only to be rebuffed by local authorities.
Permits for international music acts to play in the mainland have been limited since Bjork took it upon herself to challenge the powers that be while she was in Shanghai three years ago by shouting "Tibet! Tibet!" at the end of her song: "Declare Independence."
With upcoming, confirmed concerts by the Eagles and Usher, many are hoping that restrictions are slowly being lifted and Chinese audiences will be able to have access to more international acts.
