Party for a good cause at Marriott's Charity Ball

Marriott and Habitat for Humanity partner up and ho' down (oh so elegantly) for the city's neediest
Marriott and Habitat for Humanity Ball - brickRaising money to rebuild Shanghai one brick at a time.

For its ninth consecutive year of do-gooding, this Friday, November 19, the Marriott family of properties in Shanghai will eat, drink and dance the night away at this year’s “Marriott Charity Ball for Habitat for Humanity.”

And we couldn’t think of a better cause.

Creating homes and improving lives since 1976, Habitat for Humanity, a worldwide, non-profit organisation, has built more than 400,000 simple, safe and affordable homes for needy families in all corners of the globe, helping an estimated 27,600 families in the Asia-Pacific region alone.

An evening of good will, glamor and lots of good bites in-between (complete with six-course meal, lucky draw, silent auction and live performances) will help raise much-needed funds and awareness of the city’s lesser known but ever-needy group of senior citizens -- those without family care or support -- with proceeds supporting the renovation of up to 20 senior citizen homes in the city’s Yangpu and Zhabei districts.

If there ever was an excuse to don your fanciest duds, this is it (the invitation does call for ballers to "dress to impress"). Then bring your appetite and dance moves -- but don’t forget your wallet -- and make a difference in this city, and in someone’s life.

“The evening’s event is exemplary of the consistent support Marriott has given to Habitat for Humanity’s work in China," says Eric Arndt, general manager of Habitat for Humanity’s China Shanghai Office. "The proceeds will help launch our new age-friendly housing project here in Shanghai.”

Shanghai Marriott Hotel Changfeng Park general manager Rauf Malik adds, "The spirit of Marriott is all about serving: serving our guests, serving our associates and of course, serving our communities. This November, our hotel embraces this honor to hold yet another worthy charity event with Habitat for Humanity to better the living condition of our senior citizens.”
