Going out with a rainbow-colored bang

After three weeks of movies, panel discussions, parties and speakers ShanghaiPRIDE 2010 says farewell this weekend
ShanghaiPRIDE closing partyThis Saturday, ShanghaiPRIDE parties like only queens can.

Hard to believe that it has been three weeks since ShanghaiPRIDE 2010 kicked off, putting the city’s LGBT community on display in all its fabulousness through parties, exhibitions, film screenings and panel discussions. The festival has sadly run its course, but it's going out with a rainbow-colored bang this weekend.

Saturday is the LiberASIAN closing party as well as ShanghaiPRIDE Family Day.

To quote Shanghaiist on this one, “Saturday night promises to do what queens everywhere were born to do: throw a damn good party.”

Anyone who was at the final day last year can vouch for that.

The party Saturday night is at GameBling and DJs will be spinning from 11 p.m. on as ShanghaiPRIDE bids farewell to the festival in true Shanghai style on the Bund.

Before LiberASIAN is ShanghaiPRIDE Family Day -- clean(er) fun for those in the Shanghai LGBT community, as well as their friends and family. The day’s events are in keeping with the festival theme, “diversity, unity and harmony.”

“We’ve got one whole day of song and dance performances, games and sketches as well as lots and lots of delicious food prepared for you between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m,” says the ShanghaiPRIE website. “It will be lots of fun for the entire family -- so make plans to show up with your parents, your siblings, your kids and your pets -- and let’s have fun!”

Major LGBT-community names will be in attendance including Cui Zi'en (founder of the Beijing Queer Film Festival), Shitou (lesbian artist and director, the first woman to come out on national television in China) and Wei Xiaogang (host of "Queer Comrades," the longest standing gay Internet TV show, now in its fourth season).

Around 7 p.m. there will also be a "catwalk show” by Out in Shanghai, a group of out gays and lesbians who will take the stage along with their family members and/or straight friends, to show, well, their Pride.
