For the CCP's new Tibetan member, it's all in the family
Kids with conservative parents rebel by getting tattoos, kids with hippie parents rebelled by voting for Bush, but how do you get out your youthful rebellion when you call the Dalai Lama “uncle?” By joining the Chinese Communist Party.
"I'm proud to join the CCp," says the 35-year-old Deying Drolma, Dalai Lama's grand niece, and now a soldier of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) to China Daily reporters.
Although the news is only being reported now, Drolma took her oath to be a member of the CCP on June 26.
Why join the army as a nurse?
"When I was a child, I often saw PLA doctors who travelled a lot and underwent great difficulties to relieve herdsmen in Tibet from diseases. I was touched and have decided to become a PLA soldier ever since then," says Drolma.
