Usher sings in Mandarin and Optimus Prime lands in Beijing

Sometimes we have to give credit to our big brother, Beijing, for being awesome. This week is one of them, with Usher singing in Chinese in his concert and the construction of the city’s own Optimus Prime

U.S. R&B Grammy-winning sensation Usher brought down the house in Beijing this week with his first ever full-length concert in China.

Since this was his first China show, Usher sang some his biggest hits before ending the night by inviting guest star Taiwan-based singer, and Mandopop star, Wang Leehom join him on stage to sing “My One And Only.”

"What made me happier was that after he got in touch with me, we talked about what we could do together. I said to him, 'As your honored guest, my responsibility is to make this concert very impressive, trying to impress music fans in Beijing, in China. Then I asked him 'Would you like to sing a Chinese song?' And he said 'yes' right away,” said Wang Leehom to CRIENGLISH.com. “I think it demonstrates Usher's openness. He is willing to learn Chinese, and I believe the whole audience did go crazy the moment he started to sing in Chinese."

Usher and Wang Leehom also sang an English song together, Usher's current hit, "OMG".

Usher elaborated on the collaboration for MTV news: “I want you to have crowd participation, which is very odd in my Asian markets, because a lot of times, they don't like to sing out of respect, but I don't mind. I love for my audience to sing along with me. That's the part that makes me really enjoy it and I hope it makes them enjoy the show as well."

Although Usher's work with Wang Leehom means a lot to his future career in China (maybe a Shanghai show?), he clearly already had a fan base here as tickets to Usher’s Beijing show sold out in under a week.

10 meter-tall Optimus Prime lands in Beijing

You may have missed the Usher concert, but no sweat there’s still more to see in China's capital than the average Great Wall tour. MICGadget has spotted the next big attraction: Optimus Prime.

Transformer’s leading Autobot has landed -- or more accurately been built -- next to Beijing National Stadium (aka The Bird's Nest). Made from the bodies and tires of old cars, Optimus Prime looks oddly realistic and is already drawing crowds, although the typical China photo ops are lacking as it’s still being built, so standing next to him isn't allowed yet.

The statue, which hails from Taiwan, not Hollywood, will stay in the city until October 10.

Usher and Optimus Prime in one week in Beijing? Life post-Olympics is looking good!
