Shanghai Apple Store (almost) ready to open
The only glimpse of the soon-to-be-open Shanghai Apple Store mac fanatics get is this curtained entrance tower. You'll see what lies beneath in mid July.We reported back in February on Apple’s plans to open a Shanghai Apple Store when Apple’s COO, Tim Cook, let it slip that it’s “now a definite go… Apple will build a flagship store in Shanghai.” Well, that day is finally here.
A cylindrical glass tower -- which will apparently be used as the entrance to the underground megastore in located in Lujiazui’s new IFC Mall -- is now covered in a red curtain, signaling to those at AppleInsider that the store opening will be soon, possibly drawing the curtains in mid July.
With a design reminiscent of the New York City Apple Store and other major international brand from Armani and Cartier to Tiffany’s and Chanel also opening in the mall, the Shanghai Apple Store will be in good company.
AppleInsider reports that, “the new real property is one of the two new stores opening in Shanghai this summer and counts among the 25 new Apple Stores that the company's chief operations executive Tim Cook said would open in China by the end of 2011.”
