Faye Wong is back and fans are paying up
Suddenly, everyone is interested in what Faye Wong (王菲) has to say.Faye Wong's (王菲) mainland comeback show is on, but it’ll be a lucky few who can get in to see it, as ticket prices for her show soar.
For many fans, the five-digit prices for scalped tickets seem to be worth the cost to see the singer perform live for the first time in more than five years.
According to Yongle Ticketing, which handles the concert tickets, 80 to 90 percent of the tickets to the show had been sold by the end of last week.
"Only a few of the RMB 1,500 tickets are available," a Yongle spokeswoman told China Daily, adding, "Sales have been driven by the fact that Wong has had a hiatus of more than five years, and fans long to see her again."
Official tickets run from RMB 300 to RMB 2,500, but tickets on Taobao.come are being auctioned off for as much as RMB 12,000.
"The price is really high, but it's worth it. I love her so much," said a Faye Wong fan named Lu in a QQ discussion board dedicated to the singer.
Wong left the celebrity circuit in 2005 to dedicate time to family after her marriage to Li Yapeng.
After an appearance in an Internet shampoo advertisement in 2009, speculation began that Wong was ready to step back into the limelight. The singer announced 10 comeback shows, five in Beijing and five in Shanghai, in early 2010.
Faye Wong will perform in Shanghai Nov. 19, 20, 26, 27 and 28 at the Shanghai 2010 Expo Cultural Center (上海世博文化中心), tickets are on sale now.
