Shanghai hamburger news: The good and the bad
Say goodbye to an old burger locale while celebrating at Malone's just a block away.First the good news. Urbanatomy has announced that Malone’s, the Shanghai pub stalwart, has now served more than 750,000 burgers at its Tongren Lu branch since opening in 1994. Not quite McDonald's level yet, but it’s good to know that this local institution is still going strong. Malone's projects that it will sell its millionth burger by 2014.
Now the bad news. Blue Frog is closing its Tongren Lu location for good on Saturday -- probably as part of the strip’s overall demolition, but the official news is that their lease is up.
To go out in style, Blue Frog is hosting a party on Friday, October 30, at 6pm. For RMB 20 you get drinks all night and finger food.
Bid farewell to one of the two truly non-sketchy venues on Tongren Lu -- and a great Shanghai hamburger shop.
