Oodles of fresh noodles for your own cooking pleasure
Stands across Shanghai have fresh noodles by the jin ready for you to take home and whip into a delicious meal. Photo by Flickr user ironchefbalaraIn “50 reasons why Shanghai is the greatest city in the world” reason no. 2 was “Muslim noodle shops.” We’re not going back on that claim, but with all the fuss about what Chinese restaurants are using to cook their meals, we were happy to see a post on Phat in Shanghai on her favorite place to get fresh noodles that you can take home and whip into something yourself -- no 'swill oil' required.
Phat in Shanghai writes: “They sell thin, hand pulled noodles, knife grated noodles, and tagliatelle-style wide noodles for just RMB 2 per jin [500g]."
The shop the post recommends is halfway down an alley, next to the wet market on Wulumuqi Lu near Fuxing Lu.
It’s true that if you poke around your local wet market you might be able to find a similar shop, but it’s always good to have a go-to in the middle of the city.
For photos of the store on Wulumuqi Lu, check out Phat in Shanghai. And since you'll be in the neighborhood, don't forget to pick up some produce at the famous avocado lady ('50 reasons' no. 44).
