We're jammin': Spreadable edibles in Shanghai
We’ve covered a number of local entrepreneurs who have made names for themselves on the Shanghai culinary scene (Abendbrot's German breads, the gourmet Italian deli father-daughter team Adriano and Alessia Vettore, Shanghai organic start-up FIELDS and Chinese artisanal cheese makers). But there’s a new foodie in town who’s jammin' it up -- and very deliciously too.
Shanghai transplant Amelia Heaton-Renshaw, the name and brains behind Amelia’s Jams, told City Weekend she got her start in the homemade jam and chutney business the way so many Chinese businesses have: she cribbed the recipe from her mom. All's fair in love and jam. After quitting her job as an engineer Heaton-Renshaw saw an opening in the local market. She shaped up her traditional recipes to be made with local ingredients and a new business was born.
Although good to know the back story, it's better to know Amelia's jams are just what winter weather ordered, tasting as good on Sunday morning toast as they do in a PB&J enjoyed on a damp Shanghai night.
Amelia's Jams, jams are RMB 30, chutneys and marmalades are RMB30-50, order via email or phone. +86 136 7427 0054, amelia@ameliasmarketplace.com, www.ameliasmarketplace.com
