Can you spot the chick magnet? Boxing Cat brewmaster Gary Heyne and a delicately hopped October Fest. It's a syrupy stereotype that all women wallow in the ghetto of paper umbrellas and sugared rims. At Boxing Cat Brewery, brewmaster Gary Heyne offers pints of October Fest (RMB 45, this month’s Brewer’s Choice beer) in defense of women’s taste buds.
“We get a lot of women in here drinking October Fest," says Heyne. "Generally, women are more willing to try new craft beers. Women have a more complex palate, so they are more interested in the more elaborate taste of microbrews.”
Offering flavors of vanilla and caramel without being overly sweet, and without the bitter bite of hops, October Fest is a soothing pint to reach for as fall temperatures cool. Don’t be fooled though -- with 6.8 percent alcohol content, this beer packs a punch.
