The Shelter: For DJs by DJs

Since opening in late 2008, The Shelter has quickly become a local institution, and is invariably mentioned whenever the international press writes about the Shanghai DJ scene.

This club is underground literally as well as figuratively -- housed in a former bomb shelter, the space is dark and dank, serves inexpensive drinks and the long corridor of communal couches lends itself to making conversation with strangers.

But dancing, not talking, is The Shelter’s raison d’etre. Frequently hosting big international DJs spinning everything from drum 'n bass to hip hop to minimal techno, The Shelter provides the setting for a beat-based good party.
