Given how many Korean women own Gucci bags, it's about time time Gucci Group owner, François Pinault, gave something back to the Korean public.
Selected artworks from the French luxury tycoon's private collection are currently on display at Cheongdam-dong's SongEun ArtSpace. Admission is free.
The exhibition features 22 pieces by four of the biggest names in contemporary art: Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst, Cindy Sherman and Takashi Murakami.
This marks the first time works from Pinault's 3,000-piece collection are being shown in Seoul, and both Pinault and artist Jeff Koons flew to Seoul for the opening.
“Koreans are very interested in contemporary art and hoping to expand boundaries, so I selected world famous artists’ works this time to introduce what is happening in the world in terms of contemporary art," The Korea Herald quoted Pinault as saying at the event's press conference.
"Next time, I will select works by less famous yet still important artists to give Korean viewers a surprise."
We'd trust his taste, given that the tycoon was voted the most powerful figure in the modern art world by ArtReview in 2006 and owns his own museums in Venice, in addition to Christie's auction house.
