Tents and tigers: Indian safari summer

Taj Safaris has four beautiful jungle lodges in Madhya Pradesh and with their summer offer through June you could be in khakis in no time
Taj Safaris Taj Safaris Baghvan lodge in Pench National Park, Madhya Pradesh.

As the thirsty land eagerly awaits cooling monsoon rains, the wildlife in the Indian jungles comes out looking for waterholes. Which is, naturally, the best time for game sightings, the heat notwithstanding.

Tigers and leopards can be spotted at Taj Mahua Kothi in Bandhavgarh National Park and at Pashan Garh, Taj's other safari property in Panna National Park. One lucky adventurer recently captured on camera the antics of two leopards perched on a tree in the latter.

Taj Safaris has lodges in the national parks of Bandhavgarh, Pench, Kanha and Panna in India's largest state, Madhya Pradesh in central India. This region accounts for one-third of the total forest cover in India and was where tigers once roamed free.

Lodges are also home to naturalists who know the jungles like the backs of their hands in solid safari vehicles, and in your spare time it's cool pools, spa treatments, dining under the stars on Bundelkhandi cuisine. Nights in luxurious tent or cottages, waking up to an early morning safari, followed by a bush breakfast and... repeat.

Summer season closes June 30 as does their special offer. Rs 11,000 per person, per night (all inclusive); complimentary third night on room-only basis. Reservations in India +1 800 111 825; +91 (0) 22 66011825. Email tajsafaris@tajhotels.com or visit www.tajsafaris.com and www.tajhotels.com/promotions.
