Global hospitality giant Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has made it official: the company will bring the W brand of hotels to India by 2015 with a 350-room property in Mumbai.

"It is just a matter of time before India becomes the third-largest country for us globally," says Starwood global president and CEO Frits van Paasschen. "India is absolutely ready for the top end brands."

Starwood brands in India include Sheraton, Le Meridien and Westin. With 31 properties, it is the largest international operator of five-star hotels in India.

The W project is part of a plan to double the number of Starwood hotels in India by 2015, says The Economic Times.

Located in all the glamorous party capitals of the world, why wouldn't this designer luxury boutique hotel have chosen Mumbai?

"Vibrant. Electric. Exotic" is how the W Mumbai website describes our city. "Overlooking soaring skyscrapers, the Arabian Sea and Mahalaxmi Racecourse, and steps from ancient temples, chic boutiques and colorful bazaars, W Mumbai captures and amplifies the pulsating energy and ancient charm of the cosmopolitan capital."

A little research via DNA reveals, "The construction site is the erstwhile Ambika Mills land parcel located a few hundred metres south of another soon-to-open luxury hotel, Shangri-La, atop the luxury retail mall Palladium at High Street Phoenix in Lower Parel."
