Taj calendar 2011 tries to be too fashionable
A dozen leading Indian fashion designers are given 12 Taj hotel resorts and palaces in 12 cities. The result -- some exquisite dresses, but no travel headrush
By Sita Wadhwani 1 February, 2011January is almost over but the annual Taj calendar for 2011 is just out.
A dozen distinguished Indian fashion designers were each given an iconic Taj hotel resort or palace property to inspire them to create a year's worth of glamorous couture.
Each garment featured in this year's calendar channels a particular city’s culture, skyline and landscapes in an effort to promote the idea of rare and authentic travel experiences.
Thus Rohit Bal is given The Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai, Tarun Tahiliani dresses The Pierre in New York; Sabyasachi the newly restored heritage Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad, and so on.
Mumbai-based creative team photographer Prasad Naik and fashion stylist Little Shilpa were able to breathe life into what would otherwise have been a fairly old-fashioned concept brief.
But even then, all that meets the eye is 12 fabulous outfits, styled with elegance and restraint and shot evocatively as statues in single rooms.
Taj = superior style. I get it. But when did wanderlust go out of fashion?
