Presidents may be declining in favor worldwide, but the Taj is rising, thanks to a Muramatsu facelift.
A name like Taj President evokes classical appointments like leather, mahogany, and old dudes. But this luxe Cuffe Parade landmark has a decidedly youthful glow thanks to recent reconstructive surgery by Japanese interior designer Noriyoshi Muramatsu (of Zuma fame).
Fusing Indian design with creature comforts, Muramatsu has rehabbed 57 rooms with a blend of raw silk fabrics, warm wooden flooring and welcome touches like capacious escritoires and rain showers. Counted also among his reforms are the hotel's award-winning restaurant, Thai Pavilion, and its swank artisanal bar WINK.
The Taj President doesn't discriminate between leisure and business travellers, with options ranging from executive rooms with two-line speaker phones and secretarial or translation services, to deluxe suites with living rooms and home-entertainment rigs. Combine all this with vistas that include the Cuffe Parade neighborhood and Mumbai Harbour, and the Taj President has reclaimed its throne among the top hotels in Mumbai.
