SulaFest 2010: One vineyard, 5 great bands, 1,400 happy people
Ankur Tiwari lead singer of Ankur and the Ghalat Family played at SulaFest 2010, "in our true dysfunctional style," as the Bandra musician says.Sula Vineyards is one of India's oldest young vineyards, and a rather cool one at that, with vineyard CEO Rajeev Samant hosting the yearly SulaFest -- a day-long concert from noon till midnight at the beautiful open-air, Greek-style amphitheater, set in the middle of his own estate four hours from Mumbai.
During the day this past weekend it played as a traditional fest with bazaars, grape stomping, tattoos, caricatures, comedy artists and a tarot reader. People lay on the grass in the sun and as they watched it go down, chasing several beers, SulaFest 2010 turned into a spontaneous electronic must feast.
Photographer Prarthna Singh winds between the 1,400 strong crowd and the musicians -- from Delhi Jalebee Cartel and Teddy Boy Kill along with three Mumbai bands; Ankur and the Ghalat family representing the indie kids, Shkabang doing glam rock and Something Relevant, a talented bunch of Mumbai boys who are starting to make some big waves in the small Mumbai live music pond.

In 2005, Sula proudly launched its first reserve wine, the Dindori Reserve Shiraz, as well as India’s first dessert wine, the Late Harvest Chenin Blanc. The winery is open to the public for educational tours, and the beautiful Tasting Room is open throughout the year. The drive to the winery in Nashik (directions, click here) is over four hours, so consider their recommended accommodation options.Read more on the CNNGo app for iPhone / Android / Nokia now!
