Enfant terrible fashion designer Gaurav Gupta is in town and he wants a new bride
Gaurav Gupta doesn't swing either way, he is equally proficient at designing for both brides and grooms.Brides-to-be in the city should not miss the chance to be fitted by fashion designer Gaurav Gupta while he is in town showcasing his 2009 Bridal Collection.
Gupta's work is quite radical as far as wedding wear goes -- especially for women. He breaks the framework entirely to reinterpret India’s wealth and heritage but in a modern language. In unfashionable English that means losing the weighty sequins and the fussy embroidery and giving a girl more freedom to move. While appearing to be composed of various parts, his bridal lehengas are actually stitched together as one piece, so effectively you can step right in, and step right out.
The 2009 Bridal Collection is part rock and roll and part royal. With innovative three dimensional embroideries, peacocks and lotuses that seem alive, to architectural organza flowers in regal colors like deep purple, brass gold and mango yellow. Gupta's work has a communicating stage presence with volume, but with a certain no fuss punk attitude that the not-so-bashful variety of bride will appreciate.
Gaurav is available for couture appointments on Friday October 9, from 11am-7pm, at the Ensemble boutique in Bandra, but you need to book in advance.
