Go to the Government run shops by all means, for examples of Indian arts and crafts to buy as souvenirs. But you’ll find better designs and much better quality at Contemporary Arts and Crafts.

There’s hand made, home spun, hand-crafted product sourced from all around India, as well as contemporary objects. And CAC supports the revival of craftsmanship, a worthwhile cause on which to spend.

Around since the 1960s, this beloved, small local store is raided frequently by local shoppers and tourists. Oh and when (yes when not if) you are trying to get to CAC, say Nepean Sea Road instead of August Kranti Marg. It’s the old name of the street. And the only one cabbies will recognize.
