Biddu's bio: 'Made in India, Adventures of a Lifetime' launches at Blue Frog

Titled "Made in India, Adventures of a Lifetime," the aging, long-haired musician is releasing his book in Mumbai tomorrow followed by some rare on-stage time at Blue Frog
BidduThe pop producer turned spiritual music composer wants to be known as an author after he retires from the music business.

We would like to attend Biddu's gig at Blue Frog tomorrow night out of sheer curiosity, to witness what became of one of India's first and finest pop song writers, composers and producers who recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Jack Daniel's Annual Rock Awards 2009-10.

Biddu composed the cult song "Aap Jaisa Koi" for the film "Qurbani", following this up with another best selling 1970s pop album, Disco Deewane with Nazia Hassan, which was also the first Indian album to hit the charts in fourteen other countries. By 1995, Biddu had written and produced the 3 million-selling album "Made in India," which also launched the career of another singer, Alisha Chinai.

To date, the ageing pop star has sold over 38 million records worldwide, and even had time to turn spiritual towards the end.

And now he's written a book. It's about a 17 year-old boy playing in a café in Bangalore, running away from home, hitchhiking across the Middle East to England where he produced the famous song "Kung Fu Fighting," sung by Carl Douglas. It's his own story, in his own words.

"This travel agent got me on a pilgrimage boat to Mecca. And I was wearing these cowboy boots, had a guitar and 1,000 bucks in my pocket," Biddu told people at his book launch in Bangalore. "I’ve been a professional musician from the age of 13 and life is not just one thing."

HarperCollins has cut him a three-book deal to tell his story, "because I was known as a muscian, not a novelist," he says.

"Made In India," HarperCollins, Rs 399. Friday February 12 at Blue Frog, Lower Parel. Entry Rs 500 per head.
