Independence Ride 2: Hoist the Indian flag with 250 fellow cyclists
Mumbai's first Independence Ride took place in 2010, with over 200 riders. No registration, no registration fee, no politics, no sponsors -- all you need is a cycle "with a minimum of two wheels" to join the Independence Ride 2 through Mumbai at dawn on India's Independence Day, August 15.
"For all we know it could be a duddhwala cycle, as long as it's a cycle," said organizer Shammi Sethi, who's conceptualizing this mammoth bike ride for the second time.
More than 200 cyclists joined in from all parts of the city last year and this year Sethi expects 50 more as Mumbai's cycling movement gathers speed.

"We start the ride from five different check points at different times: Mira road, Colaba, Mulund, Thane and Vashi. All roads lead to Prabhadevi for refreshments and snacks," he said.
"We will hoist the Indian flag at Prabhadevi (around 8:30 a.m.) then all do a short ride together to Worli ending at Carter Road in Bandra (around 9:30 a.m.). This way we won't disturb the morning traffic."
You can join in at any of these checkpoints and jump off at any checkpoint. City pick-up points with routes, checkpoint locations and route coordinator contact info can be viewed on this spreadsheet.
