How much is that Google doodle in the window?
Indian students aged five to 15 were invited to dress up the Google homepage logo for prize money, but are they getting ripped off?
23 November, 2009The first Doodle 4 Google competition in India started in August 2009, where students from class one to 10 all over India were given the opportunity to design a doodle for the search engine around the theme 'My India.'
"At Google," they say, "we like to reflect the ever-changing world of our users through the logo designs on our homepage."
Not surprisingly the winner, chosen by Google's original doodler, 31-year-old, Dennis Hwang, selected a design that seemed to fit with the universe of Google -- airy, simple and clean swept, if a little poetic at times.
Little Puru, we're told, won himself a laptop, a T-shirt with his doodle and Rs. 100,000 for his school.
But over at the Plugged.in blog they're wide-eyed for a different reason.
"Puru's counterparts in the US (and UK), i.e. kids who won the Doodle contest received a $15,000 college scholarship for the school of their choice, a trip to the Google New York Office, a laptop computer, and a T-shirt printed with their doodle and a $25,000 technology grant towards the establishment or improvement of a computer lab in their school."
Causing Techgoss to ask, "Are we children of a lesser Google?"
