Documentary films in Mumbai get big screen festival status
It’s a bit loosely cobbled together without much word of mouth, but nevertheless the Taj Enlighten Society’s documentary film festival begins in Mumbai on October 4th and runs till the 25th.
The Taj Enlighten Film Society is teaming up with Cinemax and Metro Big Cinemas to bring documentaries to the big screen and that’s a first.
“Flow” opens the festival and gets a nod from director Shekhar Kapur on his blog: “For those of you that have not heard of Irena Salina, look out for her name. She has just made a terrifying, informative, well researched documentary on the future of fresh water resources on our planet.”
Next up is Mumbai filmmaker Anand Patwardhan’s “War and Peace” which some say is the best documentary India has ever produced. Anand will be around to discuss his film and the subject of peace activism.
Throw in the award winning “One Crazy Ride” by Gaurav Jani about a bunch of bikers in the Himalayas (watch the trailer), and Rakesh Sharma’s controversial film "Final Solution" and you have the makings of a great documentary festival debut, and on the big screen.
