Movenpick in Mumbai brings gourmet sorbets to the dessert table

We reported the arrival of Swiss ice-cream chain Mövenpick’s outlet at the newly opened Palladium mall back in December.

Lulu Loves Bombay, a blog by a working mom with two baby girls under five and a full-time job, rates Mumbai's food to determine whether consumables are kid friendly or not. 

Lulu went to check out Mövenpick at Palladium, the new luxury mall this week and describes it as "gourmet ice cream at its finest -- the best ingredients, all natural and churned to perfection." She bought a strawberry ice cream, green apple, raspberry and strawberry sorbet. While the Mövenpick green apple met her sweet tooth's approval, her companions, presumably her daughters, vehemently disagreed. 

"At Rs 125 for a single scoop, it's not exactly cheap but worth every spoon in my humble opinion...one of the kids didn't exactly dig gourmet scoops...I think Kwality's or Baskin Robbins work better for kids." 

The message here is that Mövenpick in Mumbai is the place to buy Swiss-made, adult-friendly gourmet sorbets, currently hard to find outside restaurants in a city full of creamy, crunchy varieties by American and Italian brands.  

After the negative publicity surrounding the Häagen-Dazs India launch in New Delhi in December, ice cream with an umlaut is a hot topic.

Who'd have thought dessert could be so controversial?
