Dream or reality? Car-free Bandra this Sunday
It's true, the residents of Khar-Bandra-Santa Cruz have called for a car-free Sunday on February 21 -- better late than never
Now if only they could get those noisy rickshaw rattle traps to take a sabbath as well. Bandra traffic is nuts. Trying to get in and out of this little stretch of suburban land is a half an hour ordeal on a good day.
"In a bid to buy a little peace in their respective areas by getting rid of the high level of noise and air pollution, the residents of Khar-Bandra-Santa Cruz have called for a car-free Sunday on February 21," reports the DNA paper.
"This car-free day concept has been successful the world over. We want to alert people about the positive side of not taking their cars out. One can always think of alternative forms of conveyance," said Rama Bishnoi, one of the organisers of the car-free day."
Tests were conducted suddenly and recently and without warning by the Awaaz Foundation and the Mahrashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB). The results? Not good.
