Lufthansa B747-400 first class

Lufthansa’s latest contribution to air travel innovation is a first class cabin that provides passengers with both a deluxe seat and a separate full-length flat bed (over two meters in length) alongside it.

The bed comes with temperature-regulated blankets and pillows; there are also sound-absorbing curtains and sound-deadening insulation beneath the carpets.

The new cabin is fitted aboard 10 of the airline’s fleet of B747-400s, which ply some of Lufthansa’s most important business routes. Mumbai and New Delhi are among the first to be included in Asia.

The upgrade was deployed on routes from these two Indian cities to Lufthansa’s first class terminal at its Frankfurt hub on October 31.

Return fares from Mumbai US$6,500.

Cathay Pacific Airways B747-400 first class

On the same day Cathay Pacific Airways also launched its first class service on the Mumbai–Hong Kong sector.

Cathay’s deluxe seat in first class can be used as an armchair, a chair lounge or an extra long and wide bed -- one of the largest provided on any commercial airline.

An ottoman and an extendable table mean you can invite people into your “suite” to join you. Party!

Both airlines' first class have adjustable 17-inch personal televisions, noise-canceling atmospheres and wide working surfaces for business travelers.

Return fares from Mumbai US$2,900.
