Cafe Basilico
Café Basilico is a good place to fill your belly at the start of a day dedicated to exploring Colaba.

Set along a tree-lined street near the Gateway of India, Café Basilico is pure bistro style -- with teak furniture, freshly baked breads and charmingly lethargic service.

While its food ranges from good to excellent, the breakfast is particularly versatile (Indian-style scrambled eggs and French toast are highly recommended) and the coffee is above par.

But where Café Basilico really excels is with its selection of tea cakes. Try the gooey chocolate as a shortcut to quick weight gain or the marzipan-laced carrot cake.

With its bamboo and natural-stone décor, an adequate selection of newspapers, plus plenty of morning sunlight, Café Basilico provides excellent shelter for a lazy morning that can stretch well into the afternoon.
