What's new in Mumbai?

Mumbai's secret scouters of cool bring you the best of what's new and undiscovered. Right now, it's dhansak home delivery and a Belgian patisserie launch

Eat Around The Corner

Just Around the Corner's new avatar

Eat Around The Corner is Just Around The Corner’s fresh, more yuppie avatar with Parisian café style seating outside and clinical white on the inside.

It's the same self-service food system but with new dishes and a whole bunch of rules. The self service counter features soups, salads, hot meals, a few old favorites in the sandwich-burger department, pizza by the slice and a whole new section of breads and dessert.

So the way it works is that you pay for what you pick up, your minimum billing must be Rs 250 and the entire card amount must be used in one go. Bandra; +91 (0) 22 2600 2665. Full bpb review.

Debailleul

Debailleul's chocolate delivery

Before Belgium-based patisserie Debailleul sets up shop at Prabhadevi next month, they're starting a home delivery service.

Currently carting over 23 varieties of chocolate bonbons (mountain honey, raspberry pate de fruits, roasted pistachio, hazelnut) and three truffle types (original, vanilla and caramel), Debailleul delivers boxes anywhere in the city.

They’re yum and pretty as a picture, but at Rs 900 for nine pieces, these sweethearts don’t come cheap. +91 (0) 98219 83583. Full bpb review

Bhonu: Delicacies by a Parsi aunty

Maneckshaw's dial-a-dhansak

For dhansak and other delicacies made by a Parsi aunty, call Rashna Maneckshaw. Rs 500 for lunch plus Rs 100 delivery charge, order one day in advance. Our first order was a greedy plundering of chicken farcha and dhansak dal, mutton biryani and soft rotis, eggs on bhaaji and caramel custard, all of which was delivered in neat little boxes.

Apart from her lunch menu, which varies from day to day, Maneckshaw can also make pickles, marzipan, prawn balchow and other Parsi treats to order. +91 98212 09085. Full bpb review.

The Shop Mumbai

The Shop of Indian traditional arts

Housed in an ancient, rust-colored bungalow in Bandra’s Pali area, The Shop is a New Delhi-based lifestyle store that focuses on traditional Indian arts.

Hand-painted ceramic plates from Pondicherry are laid out on sunny yellow mats with blue flowers, a giant vase holds fresh lilies and serving bowls are filled with candied amla. The unmistakable smell of orange blossom incense from Auroville fills the air. Bandra (W); +91 (0) 22 2648 7887. Full bpb review.
