Achar from Aruna's Andhra kitchen in Mumbai

Commercial achar brands of chutney and pickle that claim to taste just like your mom's can never tickle our tongues as much as a real mom, in a real kitchen
Anoop is partner at a Mumbai graphic design firm. Anoop's mother is Aruna. Aruna makes pickles for Anoop. Aruna makes pickles for Anoop's friends. Anoop's mother sometimes makes too much pickle and one day Anoop and Aruna put their skills together -- he to the packaging, she to the pickle -- and suddenly Mumbai has access to South Indian condiments from an authentic Andhra Pradesh kitchen, made by a mom we really know exists.

Often the Mumbai page of CNNGo feels like a local village compared to Tokyo or Singapore. This is our way of saying: we like it like that.

Currently in stock: Allam Pachchadi, a hot and sweet ginger chutney with tamarind and chillies.

Available in 250 gram sizes for quick consumption at Rs 180 a jar, delivered to your doorstep. Visit their Facebook group page for information on how to order Aruna's pickles.
