Hong Kong's most talked-about new hotels

These inspired hotels raise the bar for Hong Kong's next generation of designer digs
Hullett House - 1881 HeritageHullett House will open in the beautifully restored 1881 Heritage.

Several lifestyle hotels in Hong Kong will open soon, each high on design and lavishness:

Katy Perry
With a fresh facelift, The Mira opens tomorrow and Katy Perry will be playing the party. The hotel's new design was a collaborative effort by an international team including lifestyle guru Colin Cowie who did Oprah Winfrey’s Legends Ball and John Travolta’s 50th birthday celebration. If that's not reason enough to check out The Mira, then go for WHISK, the new Justin Quek restaurant, or COCO, the infallible chocolatiers who came up with an irresistible series of chocolate and fruit mooncakes (which CNNGo will taste-test next week.)

David Yeo's Hullett House will open at the beginning of October in one of the four oldest government buildings in Hong Kong, the historic former Marine Police Headquarters in Tsim Sha Tsui. As the founder of the Aqua restaurant group, it doesn't surprise us that the number of restaurants (five) in his hotel in Hong Kong is disproportionate to the number of rooms (10).

Swire's first hotel in Hong Kong, The Upper House, will open around about the same time as Hullett House. Located at Pacific Place in Admiralty, the emphasis at The Upper House is placed on the guest rooms rather than the restaurants. Andre Fu of AFSO is behind the clean, oasis-like design of the hotel's 117 rooms. Natural timber, shoji glass, limestone and lacquered paper panels are used in its Asian-inspired suites, each containing 300-square-feet bathrooms with bathtubs overlooking the harbor. The ingenious layout gives an incredible sense of spaciousness to the rooms, relieving guests of claustrophobia that crowded city streets often induce.
