Even though word among global business travellers is that the JIA Shanghai is much sweeter than its sister property in the Kong, this designer hotel in central Causeway Bay still gets high marks.
Say, “I’m staying at the JIA (pronounced 'jah'), some Philippe Starck designed boutique thing.” Locals who know their designer digs will recognize it. Even if cabbies won’t.
Question is, does JIA -- which means 'home' in Mandarin -- live up to its name?
Almost. Something close to magic has been done with the limited spaces at JIA Hong Kong. Small studios and suites have stylish segregated living rooms. Hipster guests add to the decor and the staff understand good service.
If the breakfast was better and the bathrooms a bit bigger, the JIA would be the best small business hotel in central Hong Kong.
And dare we say it, almost nicer than your own apartment.
Room rates start at $2500 for a studio to $6000 for the penthouse.
